How we make money

Our guides and tools are free. We plan to earn referral fees when you sign up to some products through our links, but no link earns anything yet. You'd pay the same price as anyone else.

We don't earn from any links yet. When we do, every paid link is labelled and says what we earn.

Nobody pays to be listed, to be ranked higher or to change what we write.

"Not live yet" means we've applied or plan to apply to their programme, and links to them earn nothing until it's approved. Each link on the site says whether it earns us anything at the moment you see it.

How you'll know

  • Every paid link has a Referral label next to it, and a line saying what we earn.
  • Guides and tools show at most one recommendation, after the answer or the tool result. Comparison pages show every product side by side, paid or not.
  • No pop-ups when you arrive, no countdown timers, no ticked boxes you have to untick.
  • If a paid partner isn't the best fit, we say so. Our comparison pages include products that pay us nothing.

Editorial policy

We write for self-employed tradespeople in the UK. Every rate, threshold and date comes from HMRC or GOV.UK, and each page lists its sources at the bottom with the date we checked them.

Before a page goes live, we check every figure against GOV.UK. We re-check every page each April when the tax year changes, and straight away when HMRC changes a rule.

Products in a comparison are ordered by who each one suits, never by what it pays us, and whether a company pays us has no effect on where it appears. Partners can't ask for changes to what we say. One exception to seeing pages early: Tide's programme requires us to show Tide pages that mention it before they go live. Tide can correct facts about its own product; it can't change what we say about anyone else.

If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change with the date. Email figures@toolboxmoney.co.uk.

Who checks our figures

Checks every rate, threshold and date against GOV.UK and HMRC guidance before a page goes live, and again each April. Toolbox Money is independent: nobody we link to pays for a page.

What we don't do

We don't give financial or insurance advice; we explain options and link to providers. If you need advice for your situation, speak to an accountant or a regulated adviser.
